My wife and I (Jeff Zabel) recently welcomed our daughter, Carlee, into the world. She’s our first. Actually, she’s our fifth. Well, she’s our first real child. No, wait. She’s the first child that’s made it out of the womb alive. Geez, that’s morbid… The point is we’ve been pregnant for the better part of the past three years, and yet we’ve only been officially recognized by the world as “parents” for the past three weeks (as of August ‘09).

I get it, but I guess, especially with all we’ve been through, I believe that parenthood starts long before delivery… at least 9 months before. The lessons learned and the growth experienced through our various pregnancies have been priceless.

A week before Carlee was due, a well-meaning co-worker said, “You’re almost a Daddy!” To which I replied, “Hey, I’ve been a Womb-Daddy for three years!” (Insert awkward silence here.)

In retelling this story to my friend Scott, father of two boys, he let out a good chortle, and then his face started to glimmer with that “I’m sensing something great forming here” look that freelance marketing consultant/writer/internet guru-guys are apt to get.

Womb Daddy.

Pregnancy is such a critical season for a father-to-be…er, a father-who-is-and-will-continue-to-be. There are certainly a lot of resources out there for raising kids. There are even a lot of resources available for Moms during pregnancy. But for Dudes, however – not so much.

Thus begins a venture to reach out to all the Womb Daddies, to walk alongside and dialogue about the 9-month journey that can be a thrilling, scary, joyous, devastating, and amazing time. I hope and pray this website serves you well, and if nothing else, affords you a private place to laugh, scream and if needed, cry.
